Rascal Does Not Dream is a pretty famous anime franchise for a number of reasons. Not least of which is because of how old the anime is. The original light novel by Hajime Kamoshida that the anime is based off of made its literary debut on April 10, 2014. The anime series followed a few years later on October 4, 2018. A run of eight years may not be the longest run ever, but it’s still a pretty impressive run for a single anime series. It’s certainly a good run for this upcoming anime film set to conclude that anime series, and Crunchyroll seems to believe that that as well. How else do you explain why they’re about to help that anime film make its NA debut?
Crunchyroll is proud to announce that they have acquired Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend for its NA theatrical debut. This will be the fourth feature-length anime film in the Rascal Does Not Dream, and the final one that will conclude the entire story. That anime film will make that theatrical debut in both the U.S. and Canada for three days only on February 21, 23, & 24, 2027. You will be able to watch it both in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles, or in English dub.
As part of this announcement, Crunchyroll not only has a new official trailer for Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend, but also a new key visual. You can watch that trailer either on YouTube, or just look below for that, the new key visual, and a synopsis of the anime film below:
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend | Official Trailer | Only in Theatres
Synopsis:
“Actually, I’m Touko Kirishima.”
The audience erupts in cheers as nationally renowned actress Mai Sakurajima reveals herself to be the mysterious Touko Kirishima, bringing to life the very dream Sakuta Azusagawa had on Christmas Eve.
Following Mai’s shocking revelation on April 1, seemingly impossible events from people’s dreams begin to manifest in reality.
As the mysterious social media hashtag #DREAMING, where users share dreams that later come true, suddenly disappears, Sakuta begins to experience a growing disconnect between reality and his own perception. Amid the confusion, he receives a message from himself in another possible world:
“Stop Touko Kirishima, before reality is rewritten.”
Determined to restore the world to its original state, Sakuta sets out to uncover the truth behind Touko Kirishima and confront Puberty Syndrome itself.
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend All Set for Its February 21, 23, & 24, 2027 Theatrical Debut

Honestly, this looks like it’s going to be an excellent conclusion to the Rascal Does Not Dream franchise as a whole. And quite a bit of a heartbreaker to boot. It looks like our hero Sakuta (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa (JP) and Stephen Fu (EN)) is going to have to do something drastic to restore reality to its former state. And after he had a hand in breaking it to boot.
To think all this started with Sakuta seeing a bunny girl that no one seems to be able to see. Want to know what I mean by that? Well, you can watch the entire Rascal Does Not Dream anime series (including the previous three anime films) exclusively on Crunchyroll to find that out for yourself.
