Now, you can’t say that Hollywood is run out of ideas. Because, we’ve got Whalefall for you in a few months. 20th Century Studios latest thriller follows a man who gets swallowed by a sperm whale. Poor Austin Abrams is having a pretty bad day for the looks of things. The Central Coast of California has never been this menacing in its entire existence. Director Brian Duffield is bringing the most challenging set of circumstances I’ve seen on a movie screen this summer.
And, that saying something with the other contenders we’ve had. Whalefall is going to be an absolute spectacle in a premium format like an IMAX. As a wise man once said, “you don’t wanna know what’s at the bottom of that ocean.”
A Whale of A Tale
There’s no doubt that the premise of Whalefall is one of the biggest bullet points in the movies favor. I mean, You can honestly say you that we haven’t seen a scenario like this unfold with this kind of fidelity on the big screen before. But, The entire cast and crew are looking to do right by the original source material. So expect things to make sense even with the fantastic elements of the story.
“To bring Daniel Kraus’ book to life, our cast and crew spent a summer inside a whale inside a sound stage in Studio City, California,” Brian Duffield explained. “I can’t wait for audiences to see the performances and hard work everyone put in to tell this thrilling and emotional story in a dark, cozy theater this October.”
What’s The Movie About?
Following the death of his father (Josh Brolin), Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams) goes diving off the Central Coast of California in search of his remains. But, is swallowed by a massive sperm whale.
While trapped inside its belly with only one hour of oxygen left, Jay comes to realize that the hard-earned lessons his father imparted may be the key to his escape.
Duffield directs Whalefall and features a screenplay by Brian Duffield & Daniel Kraus based on the book by Daniel Kraus by the same name, stars Austin Abrams, Josh Brolin, Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, Emily Rudd.
