Tom Cruise is known for being “Mr. Movies.” The actor, who celebrates cinema every chance he can get, wants to do big things with his work. Whether that’s hanging off a plane, bringing back beloved franchises, or his latest film, Digger, he’s earned that moniker for a reason.
Digger takes Cruise back into his Les Grossman of Tropic Thunder era with an over the top look that makes him almost unrecognizable. Digger Rockwell is a man who uses his money to get what he wants, including caring for his sick cat and talking about his penis in relation to an ice cap shifting. But what it is up to Digger to help save the world he helped to break, what is it going to take?
That is, pretty much, what we know about Digger. Cruise is joined by powerhouse actors like John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, and House of the Dragon star Emma D’Arcy. And we get glimpses in the new trailer, which is the same trailer that was shown at CinemaCon. Goodman is playing the President, telling Digger he has to help stop this world ending weather disaster happening on Digger’s watch.
While a lot of the trailer is highlighting the absurdity of the film itself and less of the story fans will see, it is a fascinating look at the work that Cruise put into Digger. Yes, we’ve seen him dive into a role that shocked audiences, like his take on Lestat de Lioncourt in Interview With The Vampire and obviously in Les Grossman. But there is something about Digger as a character that feels new and refreshing for Cruise.
And who doesn’t want to see two legends of film, like Cruise and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu working together?

Digger is in theaters on October 2.
