First Look At A Literary Classic
Netflix’s East of Eden just got a bunch of images showing off what to expect from Zoe Kazan’s limited series. Florence Pugh, Christopher Abott, and Mike Faist all star in the adapatation. When it comes to a John Steinbeck novel, you know to expect some intrigue, and a ton of detailed character work. But, Kazan is doing some lush scenery here in these images that hit the Internet. The new East of Eden series rolls onto Netflix October 1!
East of Eden Unfolds before Our Eyes
It’s been a long time coming but East of Eden is coming to Netflix sooner than expected. Zoe Kazan takes the reins of this story after her family’s last touch with the text. (Elia Kaza directed East of Eden back in 1955! A young actor by the name of James Dean was in it.) Take a look at some of these gorgeous first-look photos for yourself.
“In the process of bringing this family saga to life, the resonance of my own familial connection to the material has not been lost on me,” Kazan said in a statement.
“But it is Steinbeck’s writing — personal, shocking, profound and free — that has kept me enthralled to East of Eden since I first read the book as a young teen,” she continued. “Working on this has been the greatest joy, and I am thrilled by the cast and crew we are assembling — and deeply grateful to Netflix, Fifth Season and Anonymous Content for their support.”
Netflix Loves What They’ve Seen So Far
Netflix is looking to continue their dominance of these prestige adaptations. VP of Scripted Series, Peter Friedlander previously praised Kazan’s vision in a release.
“Zoe’s thoughtful and artistic vision pays homage to her grandfather’s revered film adaptation while beautifully honoring and introducing new audiences to a true canon of American literature,” Friedlander offered. “She is an inspiring, creative force and we can not wait for everyone to see what she and Jeb, alongside the brilliant cast led by Florence Pugh, bring to screen.”
A Short Synopsis
This fresh interpretation of Steinbeck’s masterpiece will explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, focusing new attention on its indelible antihero, Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh.
