Disney’s newest upcoming live-action remake, Tangled, is currently filming in Spain. While we have all know and love the characters Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, some set photos give us our first look at their live-action counterparts.
Rapunzel and Flynn Between Takes
The plethora of set photos comes from the X account TangledUpdates. They have been covering the production from the very beginning. In the first set of photos we see Teagan Croft’s Rapunzel cooling off between takes. In the next set of photos we see Milo Manheim’s Flynn Rider filming one of the earliest action scenes in the fictional kingdom of Corona.
Croft and Manheim both look pretty accurate as Rapunzel and Flynn. This is one positive thing you can say Disney does right when it comes to their live-action remakes. Set photos from the production will continue to come out. Keep in mind Kathryn Hahn just arrived in Spain this past weekend. So her first look as Mother Gothel is likely to be revealed in the coming days.
More Details on Tangled
It’s Directed Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder). The film, like the 2010 animated classic, follows a kidnapped princess with 70 feet of magical golden hair who escapes her secluded tower with a wanted thief to see the kingdom’s floating lanterns.
Diego Luna (Andor) also stars in a mystery role. Alongside, comedy duo Patrick and Hugo McPherson as Gothel’s henchmen the Stabbington Brothers, and Caitríona Balfe (Belfast) as Rapunzel’s mother Queen Ariana.
Tangled is going to be a pivotal point for Disney remakes moving forward. Back in 2024, development on the film was put on hold by Walt Disney Pictures after the box-office disappointment of Snow White. But was resumed following the financial success of Lilo & Stitch. That movie grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and has a sequel in the works. That said, last months Moana remake was a financial failure and the potential on the remakes is once again in question.
The film is backed by a talented director who knows how to handle musical-driven storytelling. As well as an excellent cast. Most of whom have already worked with Disney such as Hahn, Luna, and Manheim. I have heard 2019 Aladdin songwriting duo Pasek and Paul are writing new songs for the film. This is always a plus for the remakes. Let’s be honest, whether remakes make a billion dollars or a million dollars, the make for quite the social engagement.
