The beginning of everything and audiences finally get to see it.

New Trailer Offers a Peek Into the Origin

Netflix just dropped the first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” (the first time we’ll see this story on the big screen) and it is an eye-popping, loud, kid-friendly good time. The shot of Aslan (Meryl Streep) at the end will be worth the watch alone.

We see the leads, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, stumbling into different worlds via golden rings from his magician uncle played by Daniel Craig. At first, the sped-up, hyper-vibrant version of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” felt like a mismatch to the series, but it slowly works over the course of the trailer. We get our first look at the villainous Jadis the White Witch before she becomes…well, white. But nothing beats that gorgeous shot of the giant god-lion, the Creator of worlds in this saga.

The tone of the film seems to lean more youthful and colorful than previous films, but it works for the birth of an entire world.

The star-studded cast features fresh faces David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell alongside huge names like Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep. Gerwig, a lifelong fan of the books, is set to deliver a massive cinematic experience that kicks off with early IMAX previews on Feb. 10, 2027, followed by a wide theatrical release on Feb. 12 and its Netflix premiere on April 2.

The Book Vs. The Movie

The book version is a prequel to the previous books and features Narnia’s actual origin story, showing how Aslan created the world and when evil first came into it. Digory and Polly are the main characters, who end up falling into random realities and biting off more than they can chew. The book also is a bit darker than the tone of this trailer seems to convey. Jadis looks more like a glam rockstar than the last queen of a dying world. And, once again, that shot of Aslan is more majestic and galactic than the previous versions we’ve seen of this version of God.

We’ll see more when the film releases in theaters Feb. 12.
