At first glance, The Ribbon Hero looks like a modern anime film. However, if you look further in the details, you’ll notice that it’s built on the bones of an older story. That story would be the 1953 manga Princess Knight by the legendary Osamu Tezuka, which this anime film is an adaptation of. In fact, this adaptation isn’t the first. There was an anime adaptation of that manga all the way back in 1967, and there was also an 8-minute long anime film adaptation in 1999. It wouldn’t be now in 2026 that there is a modern anime adaptation, and that anime will make its debut very, very soon.
Netflix is proud to announce that they will soon be streaming the anime film The Ribbon Hero on their streaming platform. This announcement comes with a teaser trailer and new key visual. Both of which reveal that this anime film will make its Netflix-exclusive debut on August 8, 2026. You watch that very trailer for yourself either on YouTube, or just look below for that and the key visual:
The Ribbon Hero Set to Stream on Netflix on August 8

I think only serious anime nerds will appreciate the history behind The Ribbon Hero, and its late creator Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka was one of the most prolific mangaka in history, and his work that includes Astro Boy, the aforementioned Princess Knight, and Kimba the White Lion influences numerous other stories (both Japanese and overseas) even long after his death. Thus, it’s rather historic that one of his most famous works is now getting a modern anime film adaptation. And in just a few months, we can see if it’s a good adaptation of that old manga.
What do you all think? Are you eager to see if The Ribbon Hero lives up to Osamu Tezuka’s name? Tell us your martial thoughts in the comments section below.
