Ghostbusters fans will readily recall the name The Real Ghostbusters. It’s basically the animated spin-off (and sequel too) to the 1984 Ghostbusters movie. As you might expect, it features all the old paranormal investigators like Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler. However, even lesser known characters like Louis Tully (the accountant who gets possessed by a demon dog) make an appearance in animated form. The only difference is that instead of Rick Moranis (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids; Spaceballs) playing him, Rodger Bumpass (SpongeBob SquarePants) voices him instead. Thus, it’s his voice you’re hearing when the animated Tully squares off against the Grundel. Funnily enough, Bumpass also voices the Grundel, which means he’s voicing both sides. It makes for a most amusing scene to imagine for the story for today.
Mondo is proud to reveal a pair of new 1/12 scale figures of Louis Tully and the Grundel from The Real Ghostbusters. Complete with Tully getting a Ghostbusters outfit that includes a “proton pack, Ghost Trap, PKE Tracker, Ecto Goggles, and more” as swappable parts for his figure form. Meanwhile, the Grundel will come with a “Grundel Alec accessory figure, interchangeable portraits, and everything needed to recreate one of the animated series’ most memorable supernatural encounters”.
Alas, both of these figures do not yet have proper release dates. The The Real Ghostbusters – Louis Tully & Grundel 1/12 Scale Figure Set – Timed Edition will apparently be “coming soon”. Louis Tully and the Grundel Gets 1/12 Figures from Mondo at a Price
Honestly, these 1/12 figures of Louis Tully and the Grundel (as well as Slimer and an unfortunately mutated kid) look great. The detail on them is quite impressive, showing off the quality of these figures. Mondo made an effort not only to emulate the vintage animated look of The Real Ghostbusters, but they also made an effort to make them look good as well. As you can see in the above images, they look even better in the right poses as well.
Alas, the only sticking point is the price. At $202, not including taxes, shipping and handling charges, and any possible tariff charges; this is an enormous price to pay for a group of four figures. Given the current economy, I doubt most average people are willing to throw down hundreds of dollars on a figure set. Not all at once. It might take a bit of saving before you have the expendable income to get it.
Unfortunately, there’s also the fact that this figure set is a limited edition set on a timer. If you don’t get it before the time is up, then you basically can’t get it from anyone but scalpers at inflated prices. Well, even more inflated then even this. Honestly, it might be a bit out of reach for most people to be able to afford, and that’s a real shame for fans of Ghostbusters. If only wealthy Ghostbusters fans are able to afford these figures, then are they truly for the fans at all? Well, you be the judge of that. As for me, I’ll wait for something cheaper to come out in order to satisfy my Ghostbusters cravings.
