So Who Really Is Running Elizabeth Holmes’ X Account?

There is a lot about You Can See Everything that has people talking. But one thing in particular has become a “thing” on social media: Elizabeth Holmes’ X account. The film, which focuses on the 30+ days before Holmes heads to jail for her 11 year prison sentence, brought Nathan Fielder into the home of Holmes and her husband, Billy Evans. As the film itself states, there is a point where the documentary cannot talk to its subject and Fielder and co-director Lance Oppenheim get creative.

[Spoilers for You Can See Everything lie ahead]

Once Holmes goes to prison, there is still a good portion of You Can See Everything still to come. The nearly 3-hour runtime means that Fielder’s time with Holmes is limited to the first half of the movie. Then, after a time jump, Fielder is thrown back into the drama with the former Theranos CEO after Evans and Holmes continue to speak with him. All of that leads to Fielder using his tactics from The Rehearsal to bring the story to life for an audience.

For this, Fielder brings Amanda Seyfried in to reenact interactions between himself and Holmes that he could not help. With the help of Chris Abbott as Evans, the two explore a scene where Evans asked for money from the film, seemingly without Holmes’ knowledge. It then led to Holmes and Fielder’s prison exchange being recreated by the two actors. This meant though that Fielder and Seyfried had many lengthy conversations about what was going on with her/whether she was a master manipulator or someone being spoken for.

All this to get to the biggest mystery of them all: Who really runs Elizabeth Holmes’ account?

The X Account Heard Round the World

Since the film’s release, Holmes’ X account has had people looking at it differently. Within the documentary, it is revealed that Evans often tweets for Holmes, saying that he has power of attorney and full control of the account. While he tells Fielder and Seyfried that it means that Holmes will send him things and he’ll tweet them for her, he does often reply. A fact that Fielder and Seyfried both do not like, especially when they start looking at the replies they think are just Evans.

That is, essentially, what everyone online is doing now. By the end of the movie, Holmes tells Fielder that her and Evans are one and she doesn’t care about what he’s doing on social media. Fielder all but drops it and both Evans and Holmes are no longer making a profit off the film as they originally wanted. This means that a lot of seemingly “bot” accounts are online defending Billy Evans.

Does this mean that Evans has another account with a female avatar that he’s using to make himself look good? Who knows. My guess is probably but much like the verified Elizabeth Holmes account, we don’t know who is actually behind it. It does seem like it is mostly Evans and Holmes is just defending her husband but there is not proof as of now.

So what is going on with this account? Evans is using it to defend himself and say things that his wife probably wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) say and if that means she’s in trouble, then maybe another You Can See Everything will be in the works.
