The red carpet was full of talent on Tuesday, September 29th at The Alex Theatre in Glendale for the gala premiere of Buddy: The Sing-Along Version. That Hollywood Show attended the red carpet to catch up with director and co-writer Casper Kelly and young stars Delaney Quinn, Madison Skyy Polan, CJ Williams, and Luke Speakman. Plus, we even witnessed a cameo from Buddy himself.

Buddy’s Young Cast Talk Mascots & Monsters
During the interviews, the talented cast of kids proved to be humorously divided when asked what mascot they would want starring in their very own horror movie, sparking plenty of fun debate on the carpet.
Despite their differing opinions ranging from giraffes to walruses, there was one thing the entire cast could wholeheartedly agree on: how much fun they had working with Sergey Zhuravsky on set. Zhuravsky was the actor suited up inside the Buddy costume, with Jonathan Yurco playing his counterpart, Dark Buddy, and Keegan-Michael Key voicing the character.
While the monstrous orange unicorn put the kids through plenty of frights during takes, Zhuravsky went out of his way to ensure the young cast was having infinitely more fun than their characters were.

Unpacking The Film With Director & Co-Writer Casper Kelly
Drawing inspiration from Barney & Friends, director and co-writer Casper Kelly explores the question of what would happen if the childhood staple ever got frustrated with the kids. He reveals surprising behind-the-scenes mechanics of the suit, explaining that the suit actor can’t speak the dialogue due to noisy internal cooling fans. Instead, someone reads the lines off-camera and operates a mechanical mouth.
Kelly also discusses why Keegan-Michael Key was the perfect choice for the voice of Buddy and the joy of blending multiple different styles and genres to bring the film to life.
