The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brought Middle-earth back to San Diego Comic Con with a major Season 3 showcase. The Prime Video series debuted a new teaser trailer during its Hall H panel. The presentation also revealed several new characters and delivered a surprise casting announcement that fans will not soon forget.
More than 6,500 fans packed Hall H for the panel. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay joined members of the cast for the presentation. Benjamin Walker, who plays High King Gil Galad, moderated the event. The panel also featured Cynthia Addai Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman, and Season 3 newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower.
The Rings of Power Season 3 Teaser Gets Darker
The new teaser promises a darker chapter for the series. Sauron has begun his quest to forge the One Ring. His ambitions now threaten every realm of Middle-earth. The growing danger will force old enemies to work together. It will also create new and uneasy alliances as the free peoples fight for survival.
Season 3 takes place five years after the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies now control much of the world. Only a handful of isolated strongholds remain. Khazad dum shelters the Dwarves within its mountain halls. The Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell still stand behind the power of the Three Rings.
Meanwhile, Sauron has completed his tower of Barad-dur in Mordor. He now focuses on creating the ultimate weapon. The One Ring could give him the power to crush his remaining enemies and dominate all life in Middle-earth.
New Characters Join the Fight
The Hall H presentation introduced three new characters for the upcoming season. Eddie Marsan will play Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV. Andrew Richardson will portray Anarion, Elendil’s younger son and Isildur’s brother. Adam Young will play Marnukh, a mysterious Orc who may have more secrets than viewers expect.
The announcements follow two other major reveals from earlier in the week. Jamie Campbell Bower will play Celeborn, Galadriel’s long-lost husband. Zubin Varla will portray Khamul the Easterling, a character connected to the land of Rhun.
Simon Pegg Will Voice the Balrog
The biggest surprise came during a special featurette about the creatures appearing in Season 3. The video showcased Fell beasts, Mûmakil, Orcs, and the return of the fiery Balrog. It also confirmed a major first for the series. The Balrog will finally speak.
Even more surprising, Simon Pegg will provide the voice. Fans know Pegg from the Mission: Impossible franchise, Star Trek, and the Cornetto Trilogy. His involvement adds another recognizable name to an already impressive cast.
The panel also received a surprise visit from four menacing Nazgnagôl. The armored figures interrupted the presentation as they waited for Sauron’s command. The series introduces these beings as ring servants who serve as an earlier Second Age version of the Nazgûl, also known as the Ringwraiths.
Season 3 Arrives in November
Prime Video will premiere the first four episodes of The Rings of Power Season 3 on November 11, 2026. Episodes 305 and 306 will follow on November 18. The final two episodes will arrive on November 25.
The release schedule gives fans a quick start to the new season before settling into a weekly rollout. The format should keep the conversation around the series going throughout November. It also gives viewers plenty of time to speculate about Sauron’s plans as the season approaches its finale.
The Biggest Battle for Middle-earth Yet
Season 3 looks set to push the story into its most dangerous phase yet. Sauron now possesses the resources and ambition to threaten the entire world. The remaining Elves, Dwarves, Men, and Wizards must overcome their differences and unite against him.
That conflict sits at the heart of The Rings of Power. The series explores the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It follows familiar names and new characters as they confront the return of evil and the rise of powers that will shape Middle-earth for generations.
The series has also become one of Prime Video’s biggest global successes. According to Amazon, more than 185 million viewers have watched the series worldwide. The first two seasons also earned Certified Fresh scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 debuted as Nielsen’s number one Original Series and remained among the top four titles throughout its run.
With Sauron closer than ever to completing the One Ring, Season 3 could mark a major turning point for the series. The new teaser, fresh character reveals, Simon Pegg’s surprise casting, and the return of the Balrog give fans plenty of reasons to look forward to the next chapter.
