Storytelling through pictures is literally the foundation of all human communication. So how does one go about curating a single collection to encapsulate literal eons of humanity’s narrative art? That’s what George Lucas and curator Ryan Linkof have tried to do with the Lucas Museum of narrative Art, set to open later this in Los Angeles. We got our first, real glimpse into the museum yesterday at Comic-Con International (SDCC 2026).

There are none better than Linkof to bring the vision of the Lucas Museum to life. He previously served on the founding curatorial team of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and as a curator in the Photography Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The collection he’s curated for the Lucas Museum will feature all aspects of humanity’s desire to tell stories through art, from cave drawings all the way through to modern, digitally-created art.
Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be a must-see
Narrative storytelling, of course, is not just limited to static art. A huge component of the museum will be devoted to storytelling through film, as well. Its inaugural Film Program will showcase “cinema as both a powerful vehicle for telling stories and an advanced technology for creating moving visual experiences.”
“We wanted to offer an alternative to the traditional museum film program and create a dynamic, open-door experience designed for discovery, allowing audiences to encounter cinema as a living, breathing art form at their own pace,” said Linkof. The Lucas Museum will feature the “tradition of creating magic with the basic elements of film.”
Those will include “light, motion, sound, color, and editing” showcased in a theater named in honor of Slavko Vorkapich (1894-1976). (Vorkapich created astonishing montage sequences and special effects for dozens of Hollywood movies from the 1920s through the ’40s.)
And yes, of course, a Museum with name “Lucas” attached to it will feature plenty from the father of Star Wars’ own works.
