Fans got their first glimpses into Season 3 of AMC+’s The Walking Dad: Dead City at Comic-Con International (SDCC 2026), and early reactions suggest the show’s third season is going to be a banger. We had the opportunity talk with the showrunners and cast following today’s Hall H panel for even more insight into what is sure to be a pivotal season in the show’s development.
Showrunner Seth Hoffman, Executive Scott Gimple, and show stars Lauren Choen (Maggie), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan), Aimee Garcia (Renata), and Raúl Castillo (Luis) sat down to talk about just what Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City has in store. Hint: it’s a lot:
“In season three, Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) finally put aside their differences to build the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse, but when chaos begins to arise, they are forced to question: will their dark past spell doom for the entire city?”
Will The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 put differences aside?
One of the chief themes of the franchise in general, according to Cohen, is the notion that “we walk through life without being fully connected with it.” This season on The Walking Dead: Dead City, Maggie will try live again, and bury old rivalries in the process. For her to truly move on, she’s going to have to reach a point of acceptance…. And forgiveness. That means finally reconciling with Negan.
Maggie and Negan “are stronger together, and it took a long time for them to come to that realization,” said Morgan. They need to, and will in Season 3, “work together for the betterment of the world.” Old feuds must die for them to live. But can they truly put the past behind them?
We’ll find out, but on thing is for sure – this season will be much more physical than fans think it is. Morgan noted he tries to do as many of his stunts himself, requiring a certain degree of strength. His character will similarly need strength, but more of an emotional nature. One thing Gimble confirmed is that The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 will explore the after-effects of Negan sending his family away.
Change is uncomfortable…
… But very necessary, for both Negan, and Maggie. One of Lauren Cohen’s favorites of Maggie’s character traits is her capacity to change. She’s going to need to change, because as Cohen also said: “there’s something so leveling about death and the apocalypse.”
