‘Fallout’ Lucky 38 Glasses Review – Stylish Design With Some Drawbacks

Post Summary

GUNNAR Optiks have a wonderful partnership going with Fallout for glasses that are designed to not only look cool, but also protect your eyes. I’ve reviewed plenty of their blue-light-blocking glasses before but never their sunglasses, until now. The Lucky 38 gaming glasses come with an option for sunglasses lenses instead of the yellow-tinted ones. The design captures the look of glasses that someone would wear walking onto the New Vegas Strip. They’re rounded, have in-world detailing, and come with some extra goodies, but are they actually functional sunglasses?

The Good Of The Lucky 38 Sunglasses

These have survived a bachelor party, plenty of outings, going to the fair, the beach, a Dodger game, and much more. I haven’t noticed any of the hinges or screws loosening. Gunnar’s build quality is always up there, but with these glasses in particular, they’re fantastic. The lenses in particular have taken some beatings and they’re not scratched up in the slightest. The design is also striking and has gotten plenty of complements out wearing them.

Also as someone who gets migraines and needs to hide behind a pair of sunglasses indoors, these have become my “migraine” sunglasses. The lenses darken everything, but not too much; it’s the perfect blend to wear without disrupting your vision too much.

Everything that comes with the Lucky 38 Gunnar Glasses.

The Bad Of The Lucky 38 Glasses

So, to get to the worst part of the glasses, it pains me, because the swing-out blockers on the side make them look so cool, they aren’t very functional. I cannot wear these glasses while driving. The side panels block out your peripheral vision and make it exceptionally dangerous to drive with. When I’m walking around, I also can’t see the sides out of the glasses, so that’s a bit worrisome when walking around a busy street or something similar.

Those swing-out panels also make it so there’s an extra step to closing the glasses. On multiple occasions, I’ve just closed them and thought I was going to bend the frames because they get in the way. Luckily, the build quality is strong, so they haven’t bent yet.

A Still Worthy Purchase For Fallout Fans

Gunnar Lucky 38 yellow lenses

Whether its the yellow lenses, amber, or sunglasses, fans of Fallout should still love the Lucky 38 glasses. Even with some design quirks, depending on if you’re driving with them or not, the blockers on the side could work in your favor for playing games or staying attentive to what’s in front of you.

They’re just plain cool looking and that goes a long way with sunglasses.
