As a Scorpio, November 1st is hard. Mainly because my birthday is a week later and people love to hard pivot into the Christmas celebrations as soon as All Hallow’s Eve wraps up. This year, I finally have an excuse for yelling at those trying to spread Christmas cheer when it is still a Scorpio’s time to shine: We have a Friday the 13th waiting for us.
To me, the spooky season continues until Scorpio season is over. Mainly because I think Scorpios are the spookiest sign there is in the zodiac. But for many, they think that spooky season ends with Halloween. I would argue that the slasher films can come to an end but the witchy/fall vibes continue through Thanksgiving and that’s the turn into the Christmas spirit and hopefully the fact that Friday the 13th is landing on November 13th this year will help to keep that vibe going.
Look, I am aware that the minute the Pumpkin Spice lattes hit Starbucks, people claim that it is Halloween. While I am someone who celebrates Halloween year round, I would like to point out that the season does belong to the Scorpios of the world. Meaning that it really doesn’t begin until October and even then, it stretches until Scorpio ends on November 22. But at this point, a lot of the issue with how we celebrate things is that we focus on holidays and forget about the seasons.
Fall runs from mid September through the end of November. The vibes of Fall are, at this point, conflated with Halloween meaning that everyone just pivots to winter. That’s not fair to the rest of fall! It exists for a reason and we have turned holidays into the way we dictate the entire end of the year.
May we never start Christmas on November 1st again
Is Jason Voorhees the figurehead I want for my cause? Not necessarily. I don’t really need the man who drowned at Camp Crystal Lake to haunt my birthday but if it means that I won’t have to deal with people blasting “All I Want for Christmas Is You” at me on my birthday, then I will happily take that.
In reality, this year just means we have a two week break before people begin the Christmas celebrations and who knows what will happen next year when we’re without a Friday the 13th. But I will take my wins where I can.
