‘Sekiro: No Defeat’ Soon Delighting FromSoftware Fans By Streaming On Crunchyroll

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is one of the less well-known entries in FromSoftware’s video games. It’s a dark fantasy action game with a story steeped in Japanese folklore and featuring the usual high difficulty gameplay that FromSoftware but spiced with with a focus on stealth due to the fact that the main character, the titular Sekiro, is a shinobi. The result has been one of the most critically acclaimed games in FromSoftware’s history. Thus, you can then see why an anime adaptation of the game, while surprising at first, is now quite refreshing in hindsight. And now, as you can see by the title of today’s story, we know when and where we can see this upcoming anime.

Crunchyroll is proud to announce that they will soon be exclusively streaming the upcoming anime series Sekiro: No Defeat. This upcoming anime adaptation of the hit FromSoftware video game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will make its streaming debut sometime in January 2027. Said streaming on Crunchyroll will happen worldwide save for in Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus.

Not only that, but Crunchyroll also reveals that Sekiro: No Defeat will consist of a single 8-episode season. Given that this anime was originally an anime film that also originally had a 3-week theatrical run in its home nation of Japan. I say “originally” because it extended that run due to popular demand. In fact, it’s so popular that it also made its NA theatrical debut soon after at the Fantasia International Film Festival as part of Annecy’s “Feature Films: Midnight Specials” program.

Also as part of this announcement, Crunchyroll is revealing the Japanese voice cast and crew of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Said voice cast are reprising their roles from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. You can find the details below:

Sekiro: No Defeat Streaming Exclusively on Crunchyroll in January 2027

If there are any diehard fans of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, then rejoice! For you now know exactly when you can see the anime adaptation of that video game. You all even know where to boot, given that it will be a Crunchyroll exclusive. Not only that, you can also see from the trailer and promotional material that Sekiro: No Defeat will be a very artsy anime. What else can you call it when you see blood spraying from a hand cut by a sword bleeding into the screen, and a dead cat lying by a river suddenly turn into a school of goldfish that swim away into the water? It seems a lot of that anime will be very symbolic, creating a treat for those examining the anime for allegories, metaphors, etc.. Fans of Sui Ishida (Tokyo Ghoul, Choujin X) might also enjoy the artful violence of this anime as well.

Honestly, I’m excited for Sekiro: No Defeat because of that. The only obstacle here is that because it’s a Crunchyroll exclusive, you will have to pay for a subscription in order to watch it. Fortunately, you only need a basic Fan tier subscription to access the streaming service’s anime, which will cost you $9.99 USD per month as of this writing. You can wait for the anime to finish airing the entire season, and then get a month to watch the whole thing to save on money.
