The new clip has everybody’s favorite Unicorn? Dancing with his friends. But, there’s something slightly off about this Childhood favorite. Check out the new clip down below. Buddy’s New Teaser

Prepare yourself, because things are about to get weird. A new teaser trailer for Buddy just dropped. And August 28th can’t get here fast enough. Casper Kelly, of Too Many Cooks fame is back with a delightfully unhinged riff on Children’s television programming. If you’re familiar with that Adult Swim entry, you know to expect a lot in Buddy when it hits theaters this month.

The new teaser frames itself like an infomercial with a slickly added VHS filter over the top of it. Fans could call that number to get what I’m sure is an unsettling message from the children’s TV icon. The entire buddy conceit is riding on the idea that a children’s TV show mascot is inherently menacing in a strange kind of way. Check out the new teaser for yourself and see if you agree.

THS’s Take on The Monster

Like we mentioned before, if you’re a fan of Kelly’s previous work on the surreal comedy block, you’re in for a treat here. Both Too Many Cooks and The Yule Log had such a grip horror fans and pop culture aficionados that knew what was up and working on the gag. Jamie King wrote Buddy along with Caspar Kelly and there’s more going on here than a simple satire of children’s television.

In an age where the de facto operating procedure for a lot of big studios and other corporations is to lean into the nostalgia of these fan favorite franchises and characters, spoofing that impulse is a natural move. But, as always there is a little more nuance in the conversation than just “Barney was a little weird right?” We’re excited to see what Buddy is bringing to the table when it hits theaters in just a few weeks.

Remember BUDDY—the bright orange unicorn and star of that classic childrens’ television show who brought joy and life lessons into your living room?
 
Inside the colorful world of “It’s Buddy!”, a group of children spend their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.

Buddy stars Cristin Milioti, Delaney Quinn, Patton Oswalt, Michael Shannon, with Topher Grace and Keegan-Michael Key. The film is directed by Casper Kelly and written by Jamie King & Kelly.

The movie hits theaters on August 28.
