New ‘Blair Witch Project’ Reboot Adds Original Stars As Executive Producers

We’re getting a reboot of The Blair Witch Project at Lionsgate and we’ve got some good news about that reboot. According to Lionsgate, actors Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, writers-directors Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick, and producer Gregg Hale will executive produce the new film.

Dylan Clark is directing the film from a script that he’s rewriting from Chris Devlin. There are no plot details of note for now.

Filming begins in the Fall with a budget in the $10 million range.

The involvement of the two stars of the film is notable because they’ve been vocal for a while now about the lack of residuals they received from the original film. So its good to hear that they’ll be getting something from this new film.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Atomic Monster‘s James Wan will produce the reboot alongside Roy Lee and Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath. Executive producers include Steven Schneider, Michael Clear, and Judson Scott.

Lionsgate is distributing the movie in North America and the UK but they don’t have an international partner yet. They should find one at the Cannes film market next month.

The original film followed three film students who vanish in the Maryland woods while shooting a documentary on a local phenomenon. They all end up going missing and the only thing that’s left behind is their footage. It popularized the found footage genre for most people and made a massive amount of money on a small budget.

We’ll keep you updated on all things Blair Witch as we get it.
