A Brand New Day for Spidey

2026 couldn’t have been better for Spider-man. His latest Sony adventure Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest grossing domestic release of all time. The latest tale featuring the Wall Crawler topped Star Wars: The Force Awakens to get there. Director Destin Daniel Cretton now has his cinematic achievement in the history books. And, an amazing year for Tom Holland and Zendaya becomes even sweeter with the latest achievement. We’ve got the full numbers here for you after the break.

Spider-Man Is Number One

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios now have the highest-grossing domestic release of all-time at the box office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day just passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens to earn it’s place at the top of the ladder. Marvel and Sony netted more than $936 million here in the United States with their latest film. Now, all that’s left is to see if Spider-Man can do the improbible and reach $1 billion.

47 days in theaters is a long time. But, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has brought fans out for repeat viewings of Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger. Across the entire world, Spidey’s jaunt brought in a staggering $2.4 billion. Only Avatar and Avengers: Endgame are higher on the totem pole. It’s a wild number to hit post-2020. But, leave it to Spider-Man to be truly spectacular.

What Does The Future Look Like For Tom Holland’s Hero?

Marvel Studios has been adamant that Holland’s version of Spider-Man is not in Avengers: Doomsday, out later this December. While some fans might lament that decision, it makes an eventual appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars that much more hype. With these kind of box office numbers, Holland will get to play Peter Parker for as long as he wants to. Audiences seem to enjoy these outings with him, and the latest one only intensified their affinity for the MCU’s version of Spider-man.

What Did Spider-Man Do This Time?

It’s a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full time as Spider-man in a world that doesn’t remember him – and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him – sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves: a powerful villain no one can see.

The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

Destin Daniel Cretton’s Masterpiece

Everyone online has been very quick to shower praise on director Destin Daniel Cretton for crafting a Spider-Man adventure that feels more like the comics than some of the recent MCU entries. (Take that with a grain of salt, we’ve been doing Multiverse storytelling for a while in the Marvel Comics main universe.) But, Cretton really deserves his flowers.

Holland had a lot of nice things to say about his director during a press conference for the film. “I think that we are so lucky to have Destin as the captain of our ship.  You know, he came into this process when the movie was going in 100 different directions, and really what we needed was someone to come in and focus us all on one idea.”

“What’s so amazing about Destin is that he’s able to do that and focus on this idea of what is life like for a young person who is alone.  And that is something that people deal with all across the world.  It doesn’t sacrifice the action.  It doesn’t sacrifice the scope and scale of the movie.  So if we didn’t have Destin, this movie wouldn’t be half of what it is.”
