Paramount Pictures is moving big on their upcoming G.I. Joe film. They’ve already brought on Danny McBride as a writer/director for the picture and how they’ve got Bradley Cooper signed on. Cooper will join the film which was written by McBride, Jeff Fradley, and John Carcieri.
Cooper will play Duke in the film, the leader of the Joes. Channing Tatum played the character in the previous live-action films G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The 80s toy line and cartoon focused on soldiers who fight against the evil of COBRA. It featured characters like Duke, Roadblock, and Snake Eyes, and bad guys like Cobra Commander, Baroness, Destro and Zartan.
G.I. Joe has been a huge priority for Paramount Pictures of late, which under David Ellison, has been ramping up development for major IP brands. They’ve already brought in filmmakers to bring back Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Trek. Bringing in Bradley Cooper for Duke signals that it could be the highest priority for them. Cooper is coming off plenty of critically and commercially successful films.
Producing are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and Zev Foreman of Hasbro Entertainment.
