‘Coco 2’ Gives Us a First Look at Teenage Miguel

Pixar has given our first look at Coco 2 and share some exciting details for the upcoming sequel. The updates come during Disney’s Entertainment Showcase Friday night.

Coco 2 Details Revealed

Star Benjamin Bratt came out on stage and confirmed that Coco 2 will take place a few years after the first film. Ernesto De La Cruz returns for revenge, but a slightly older Miguel will team up with him in the underworld. Additionally, Anthony Gonzelez was confirmed to return as Miguel. Lee Unkrich, who left Pixar in 2019, will return to Pixar and direct alongside Co-Director Adrian Molina.

A first look at Miguel and Dante was also officially released from Pixar.

The 2017 original follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel (Gonzalez) who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family and reverse their ban on music.

Directed by Lee Unkrich, co-directed by Adrian Molina, and produced by Darla K. Anderson, from a screenplay written by Molina and Matthew Aldrich, and a story by Unkrich, Molina, Aldrich, and Jason Katz, based on an original idea conceived by Unkrich. The film stars the voices of Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Renée Victor, Ana Ofelia Murguía, and Edward James Olmos.

Coco grossed over $814 million worldwide, becoming the 15th highest-grossing animated film ever at the time of its release. Coco received two awards at the 90th Academy Awards and numerous other accolades. The film was chosen by the National Board of Review as the Best Animated Film of 2017.

Additionally, it was announced that world of Coco is coming to Kingdom Hearts 4, which is se to release in 2027. More news from the franchise is expected tomorrow when Disney Parks dives into the Coco dark ride coming to Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort. The attraction will reportedly draw inspiration for the attraction from beloved classics, like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
