Ted Lasso was, originally, a three season run of the hit comedy series. Partly because its star, Jason Sudeikis, was creatively a bit spent with the series. So it was a surprise to fans everywhere when 3 years later, Ted Lasso returned with Sudeikis back as the Oklahoma coach in England. Now, fans are asking the next logical question: Does that mean Sudeikis would return for a season 5?
While on the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso show, Fragoso asked Sudeikis about the potential of more seasons and Sudeikis made it clear that while he would “like to” do more of the show, that it isn’t just up to him. He told Fragoso that it “takes a village” to create a show like this. After Fragoso pressed him, he said “I just don’t know” and then clarified that if the show was to get a season 5 that they haven’t started building anything out for it yet. “We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that.”
Part of the reason Sudeikis claimed the show originally ended with season 3 came from the show’s planned 3-season arc. He also admitted during press for season 4 that he felt “drained” creatively by the end of it. But the new season gave Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, and the team behind Ted Lasso the chance to bring in a female football team for Ted to lead. With the help of Coach Beard (Hunt) and the new couch, Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds).
Now that the season has come to a close, the question about the potential return again is on the minds of fans. Especially since we only got one season with the Lady Greyhounds. And it did seem like having the boys of Richmond show up in the finale was teasing a season with a bit more time split between Richmond teams.
When Fragoso asked about Sudeikis’ cup having enough room for a season 5, Sudeikis joked “Um, we’re going to need a bigger cup.” That being said, he didn’t say that was the end of the show. In fact, Sudeikis teased that it would “be fun” to come back to Ted’s khakis once again if needed. So who really knows what the future holds for our beloved Ted Lasso.
