The Magic Faraway Tree is a title that most Americans will likely not have heard of. Mostly because it’s a modern adaptation of a series of children’s books of the same name by British author Enid Blyton. Despite that lack of knowledge of her works here in the U.S., she’s quite famous in her native Britain. In fact, even worldwide, Blyton’s books have been bestsellers since the 1930s. Heck, as of 2019, Blyton is the fourth-most translated author in the whole planet. All in spite of numerous controversies involving her works being racist and sexist to boot, which necessitated quite a bit of rewriting to make them more palatable to a modern audience. A modern audience like us who will watch this upcoming movie soon.
Vertical is proud to announce the upcoming U.S. theatrical debut of The Magic Faraway Tree with a brand new official trailer. This trailer also reveals that this movie featuring Ben Gregor as director and Simon Farnaby as writer will make that nationwide debut on August 21, 2026. In fact, you can see for yourself in that very trailer either on YouTube, or just look below:

For most Americans, including me, this might very well be the first time you’ve heard of The Magic Faraway Tree along with Enid Blyton. And despite her fame, the racism and sexism controversies surrounding her work seems to overshadow that fame. Now granted, she did write her stories in the 1930s, when the world was much less accepting of people of color back then. However, this is challenged by the fact that even some libraries and schools of the same era, including the BBC, still banned her books or refused to broadcast them because of how racist and sexist they were. It was only when they received rewrites to cut out the racism and sexism that people started to re-accept them, so take that as you will.
