Legend of the White Dragon is a bit of an odd upcoming movie, and one that will look familiar to fans of the Power Rangers franchise. That’s because it all started with a Kickstarter campaign led by Aaron Schoenke and Jason David Frank. The former will be familiar to fans of Super Power Beat Down, and the latter will be especially familiar to fans of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as Tommy Oliver: the Green Ranger, the White Ranger, and a whole bunch of Rangers in between and aside. They describe this movie as a “mature take on the Power Rangers franchise”, but set in its own original world. It took a second Kickstarter campaign to actually fund this movie, but they have done it. And based on the results, it looks like we might have a hit on our hands.
Well Go USA Entertainment is proud to announce the impending release of Legend of the White Dragon with a new official trailer and poster. That same trailer reveals at the very end that this mature not-quite-Power Rangers movie will head to U.S. theaters on August 28, 2026. You can purchase tickets for it when they arrive from Fandango.
Now as for that trailer and poster? Well, you can watch that trailer on YouTube, or you can look below for that and the new poster:
Official Trailer and Synopsis

But as he seeks to reunite with his secret family, a mysterious villain known as Dragon Prime rises with a relentless vendetta to see the White Dragon fall for good.
Legend of the White Dragon Looking to Be a More Mature and Bloody Power Rangers

Honestly, the idea of a more mature Power Rangers that has adults be the target audience is a pretty interesting premise. It makes Legend of the White Dragon into a potentially interesting movie, since it allows the movie to explore adult themes that Power Rangers wasn’t allowed to simply because its target demographic is children. Indeed, we can see in that trailer that we’re going to be in for a much more dark and violent story than the usual Power Rangers story. Complete with a dark conspiracy story involving falsified crimes and everything.
And yet, technically speaking, we already have a dark and mature Power Rangers story. Tokusatsu fans might recall the name Kamen Rider. This is a tokusatsu series that already does basically everything Legend of the White Dragon sets out to do. Kamen Rider shows people dying horribly and violently, with only the most graphic elements toned down, and features long and complex storylines over the course of some seriously long seasons. Despite that, it’s pretty clear that Kamen Rider is a show aimed at adults, making it a perfect counterpart to the Super Sentai Series that initially inspired Power Rangers.
Honestly, it would be pretty cool if Legend of the White Dragon took some inspiration from Kamen Rider for their own dark storyline. Fortunately though, based on that trailer, they might just have.
What do you all think? Are there any Power Rangers fans among you who are eager to see a darker and more violent version of the show you love in Legend of the White Dragon? Tell us your tokusatsu thoughts in the comments section below.
