It has been 16 years since Bryan Lee O’Malley released the final chapter of his Scott Pilgrim series. After exploring different mediums with these beloved characters from the acclaimed Oni Press graphic novels, things have come full circle as a brand new comic from this universe is on its way.
During the Oni Press: The Countdown to 30 Years panel at San Diego Comic Con 2026, the award-winning comic creator revealed that he has been working on an all-new one-shot comic starring Scott Pilgrim. Interestingly, he would not be exploring a new corner of the Pilgrimverse. Neither would he even revisit the comic that started it all. Instead, O’Malley has put together a prequel to the franchise’s newest video game Scott Pilgrim EX.
The upcoming the 24-page book is titled Scott Pilgrim EX: Dawn of Metal Scott. In the game, Metal Scott kidnaps the members of Sex Bob-Omb ahead of a huge gig. With help from Roxie Richter, Lucas Lee, Matthew Patel, Gideon Gordon Graves, and Robot-01, Scott and Ramona search the city of Toronto to rescue the band from harm. When readers pick up the new comic from their local comic shops in November, they will be transported. The story harkens back to a time before the events of the game. In it you’ll discover the origins of Scott’s metallic doppelgänger from the side-scrolling beat ‘em up game from Tribute Games.
Precious Little Life
In the time since the sixth volume of the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour came out in 2010, the franchise has flourished. Edgar Wright’s film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a beloved cult classic. The series’ first video game Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game quickly became a hit among those lucky enough to catch it digitally during the initial release. Add in an animated series and graphic novel….
Long story short: Brian Lee O’Malley’s creation has been a cherished part of people’s lives for over twenty years. Because of that, the writer and artist did not take this return to comics lightly.
“When I was asked to create a mini-comic for Scott Pilgrim Ex, I quickly said yes without considering the implications,” said O’Malley in a press release. “Only when I started writing and drawing it did I realize this would be the first new Scott Pilgrim comic in 16 years. It’s only a trifle, but returning to Scott’s Toronto really did feel like coming home.”

It’s uncertain if O’Malley will continue “going home” and developing new comics in this universe. We at least know that Oni Press will release Scott Pilgrim EX: Dawn of Metal Scott on November 11, 2026. In the meantime, here’s the cover of the book, along with its synopsis:
