A Whole Different Ballgame
This is a shocking development for film fans everywhere. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be getting its time on the biggest screen possible sooner than expected. The theater giant and Sony Pictures along with Marvel Studios announced the move today. Now, fans in China Japan and South Korea have already seen the latest entry of Marvel’s franchise in IMAX. But, the world gets their shot in just a few days!
Spider-Man: Brand New Day In IMAX
IMAX shocked everyone this morning when they announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is hitting their screens on August 6. Following the biggest opening weekend of all-time, the premium format pioneer swung into action. South Korea saw the biggest IMAX opening weekend in the country’s history with 9% of the total box office total on just those screens.
It’s no wonder that IMAX got to work quickly to help capitalize on the hype. Destin Daniel Cretton’s masterful turn as the man behind the camera for Spidey’s latest adventure cannot be ignored. On social media and everywhere else, people are showing their love for Spider-Man. It’s a great time to go to the cinema.

IMAX Is Hype For The Release
“Spider-Man has been among the most bankable superheroes at the global box office for over two decades — with the franchise delivering $365 million in IMAX receipts to date — and Brand New Day is taking that legacy to new heights with its record-breaking opening weekend,” Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX said. “We believe more Spidey fans around the world will want to experience his latest adventure in IMAX — and we hope to be a major driver of both new and repeat viewing for the latest hit in this incredible year for moviegoing.”
What’s The Movie About?
It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.
But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
How Good Is This Installment?
The latest entry in the Holland Spider-Man saga is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. And, while there are a number of cameos. (The amazing reveals really do hit.) The movie’s success is really down to how lived-in Peter’s experience is. Check out what our Rachel Leishman had to say about that!
“The emotional core of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is split in two. On the one hand, you have MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon),” Leishman argues. “On the other, you have Peter without Aunt May. In most Spider-Man stories, he always has his Aunt to go back to no matter what ends up happening in his life. But this is a new era for Peter. He doesn’t have a safety net to keep him grounded and human.”
“Brand New Day managed to make so many things clear about Peter Parker,” she adds. “But the most important things about him, his moral compass and his heart, will always belong to the friends and family who helped him become the Spider-Man that New York needed.”
