Joining them are Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds, and Tim Baltz. Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault will serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers with Yacenda set to direct all episodes. James Gunn and Peter Safran also serve as executive producers.
What Is The People V. Gorilla Grodd About?

The logline for the new series goes like this.
A superintelligent ape is convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. In an eight-part “true” crime docuseries, the Daily Planet’s Jimmy Olsen reopens the case, investigating whether Gorilla Grodd was wrongly convicted in one of Metropolis’ most famous murder trials.
Here’s what James Gunn and Peter Safran had to say about the announcement.
“Between Skyler’s wonderful performance and the fantastic chemistry of the Daily Planet cast, we knew coming out of ‘Superman’ that this would be a fun world to explore. We’re excited to work with the brilliant Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda to take the audience down some of the darker and funnier streets and alleyways of the DCU as Jimmy spotlights the Metropolis criminal justice system for his docuseries.”
This series follows up on several announcements of cancelations of previously announced DC Studios shows like Waller, Booster Gold, and Paradise Lost. After Supergirl didn’t meet expectations at the box office, the new-ish studio is in need of good news and a hit. Lanterns is busy breaking records on HBO Max and HBO with its viewership on the debut episode. The next DC Studios movie project is Clayface, a horror-ish movie about the titular Batman villain. That film releases in theaters on October 23rd, 2026.
As for The People V. Gorilla Grodd, it sounds like a funny concept for a comic book show that we haven’t really seen before. We always focus on the superheroes and how to humanize them, but what about the normal people out in the world of Metropolis? This feels very much like those supplemental issues of comic books that aren’t completely necessary to the main stories being told, but help to build out the world.
