Another World is a 2025 Hong Kong-made animated film that most people here in the U.S. has probably never heard of. It’s the animated film adaptation of the 2012 novel Thousand Year Ghost by Naka Saijō, and was actually initially released as a 14-minute long short film back in 2019.
After winning numerous international awards, director Tommy Kai Chung Ng and screenplay writer Polly Yeung then went on to expand Another World into its current 111-minute long full theatrical release. A theatrical release that then saw it win even more awards, including the 62nd Golden Horse Award for Best Animated Feature and nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score. On top of that, at the Hong Kong box office, it became the highest grossing animated film in Hong Kong history, earning HK$15 million. With all that under its belt, is it any wonder that GKIDS would bring it to NA shores?
GKIDS is proud to announce Another World with a brand new trailer and key art for this upcoming animated film. That very trailer also reveals this award-winning animated film will see a theatrical debut on June 5, 2026. And in its original Cantonese language with English subtitles to boot. You can check out that trailer for yourself either on YouTube, or just look below for that and the new key visual:
Another World Journeying into U.S. Theaters on June 5

Honestly, as a Cantonese speaker myself, seeing a feature-length animated film in the Cantonese language getting this much hype around it is quite refreshing. Especially for a movie that looks as good as this one does. Seriously, Another World is giving me such strong Studio Ghibli vibes, especially the more violent and dark ones like Princess Mononoke. Even without looking at its list of awards, I can already tell that this is going to be a good one just from that trailer. Maybe you might check it out in theaters as well?
What do you all think? Does this trailer for Another World make you want to check it out in theaters on June 5? Tell us your ghostly thoughts in the comments section below.
