It is hard to have hope in 2026. The political landscape hasn’t exactly been promising the last few years and it has led to many of us questioning whether or not anything was going to change. Then the midterms gave us all just a little bit of hope where the Blue Wave is concerned. Democrats came out successful, turning both the House and the Senate and giving Democrats control. Affectionately called the Blue Wave, the success of the election is one that is giving us all something that felt lost: Hope.
Throughout the night, Steve Kornacki was calling each district as the results came in. MSNBC was a bit more cautious than other news stations and tried to keep expectations reasonable as we saw state after state turning. Texas turned blue for the first time in my lifetime. It was blue for the first time in James Talarico’s lifetime, who won the Senate seat for the Lone Star State. And Texas wasn’t the only big win that had people shocked. And after two years of disappointments from the Trump administration, it is a pretty big deal to finally have something to look forward to again.
As of this writing, the GOP lost 7 seats in the Senate with results still coming in. In the House of Representatives, the GOP lost 25 seats with results still outstanding. That’s not a nothing election. That paired with the Democratic Governors who are taking over, there is a lot to celebrate. Governor Greg Abbott is out in Texas and Gina Hinojosa is taking his place! So if you want to have a bit of hope in your life again, it is okay because this is something we haven’t felt as a collective in quite a lot of years.
Hope Core Is Cool Again

Back during the Obama administration, we had shows like Parks and Recreation that allowed us to have hope in our politicians. That hope was lost quite quickly with the 2016 election. Since, we have been disappointed by the government, afraid of what was going to happen next, and watched as Americans struggled to find jobs and pay their bills. The results of the 2026 midterms show that the frustration is not just on the side of the Democrats.
January, Democrats will be sworn in across the board in landslide victories and history making roles. That’s something to be excited about and that means that for all the upset and turmoil we’re dealing with daily, there is a bit of glimmer of hope for the future and what it could mean for this country.
So if you want to celebrate the Blue Wave and go out there and have one moment of happiness, you are more than welcome to. We all deserve a little bit of hope.
