Cursed movies still exist. They’re just constantly being pushed out by the Daily Wire. Ben Shapiro, the failed screenwriter who is now a mouthpiece for the publication, has pivoted to making his own movies and gives a platform to the previously “cancelled.” It all started with Gina Carano after she was fired from The Mandalorian. Now, he’s putting James Franco in a movie….sigh.
Shapiro has taken on the role of helping those “canceled” out for one reason or another. It has led to a series of movies that have horrendous Rotten Tomatoes scores and the only people who have seemingly watched them are people who subscribe to the Daily Wire anyway. This latest film seems to be just another cog in that machine. This time with names like Franco and Rob Lowe. To be fair, I always thought Lowe learned nothing from Parks and Recreation so that’s not surprising.
In a move that really just baffles the mind, Daily Wire released its first trailer for Confession, a movie inspired by the Lubyanka Prison and set during World War II. There isn’t anything remarkably special about it. If anything, it feels like every other movie set in a room just like this. But this time with a bunch of people no one wants to see in a movie, most of all Franco.
“This is an incredible story of the human spirit and its survival against those who would crush it,” said Lowe via Deadline. Shapiro also had something to say about it, talking about the accolades of his cast without recognizing that a lot of that was before Franco was accused of some horrific things.
Shapiro said: “It was a true honor to be able to work with a cast featuring Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominees, as well as one of the world’s great directors, to make Confession, an extraordinarily beautiful and honest film deeply rooted in faith, morality, virtue, hardship, and most of all, what it means to be a free and decent human being. I couldn’t be more proud of this project and can’t wait for the audience to see it.”
If you desire to know more…
The cast joining Franco is The West Wing star Lowe, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Nick Nolte, Richard Blake, Emilie Hirsch, Brad Dourif, and Dean Norris. The logline reads: “In Stalin’s 1938 Moscow, a disillusioned former literature professor, Alexei (Lowe), is arrested and brought to the infamous Lubyanka Prison, charged with conspiring with his dissident priest. There, Alexei faces interrogation by his brilliant and brutal former student, Vladimir (Franco). Forced to the ultimate test of betrayal or conscience, and confronted with his past sins, Alexei finds redemption through truth, sacrificing himself to save others in a haunting tale of morality and resistance.”
I’m not going to ever see this slop and I don’t really care to think about it outside of this piece. But if you desire to watch Shapiro continue to attempt to make his career in filmmaking happen, here is the trailer.
Once again, this is your reminder that the reason the Daily Wire is a thing is because Shapiro couldn’t hack it in Hollywood.
