IT: Welcome To Derry Is Coming Back
IT: Welcome to Derry is getting a second season at HBO from Warner Bros. Television. The news comes following the landmark first season of the show. The second season will be executive produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti. Brad Caleb Kane will serve as showrunner as well. Since its debut, the series has ranked among the top four series premieres globally in HBO Max history. The eight-episode first season is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
Although we have news about a second season, we don’t have any news about a prospective release date for the series or any other details outside of the showrunner and producers.
Some Words About IT: Welcome To Derry
If you missed out on the first season, the show follows a group of kids as they notice the goings-on in Derry and end up finding the root of the evil in the town, Pennywise. The second season goes like this:
Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, IT: WELCOME TO DERRY is based on King’s “IT” novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films “IT” and “IT Chapter Two.” Season two takes place in 1935 during the Great Depression and centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.
Here’s what Andy and Barbara Muschietti have to say about the show.
“We know IT: WELCOME TO DERRY will continue to captivate viewers with its spine-tingling new journey into the 1930s for Season 2. We look forward to bringing fans back to the town of Derry to experience the next chapter and uncover even more of what lies beneath the surface.”
If You Haven’t Seen The First Season, You Need To

Here’s what I had to say about IT: Welcome To Derry in my review of the first season:
The fourth and fifth episodes are the strongest after the premiere episode. It helps that they’re the ones that the story comes together the most. The direction and effects from Andy Muschietti are on par with the films and they leave you wanting more. The series has tons of potential for the final three episodes and for future seasons telling the story of just how Derry came to be, and the evil that resides there. The small teases we get of Pennywise before he actually fully shows up are fantastic and utterly captivating.
For fans of IT, Welcome to Derry is a welcome addition to the lore and gives us plenty to chew on. The series is scary, full of intrigue, and is a perfect way to continue the Halloween season into the latter parts of the year.
