First Reactions to The Mandalorian and Grogu
Star Wars finally returns to the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu. The movie’s big premiere was in Los Angeles last night. A ton of critics managed to see the film. And, their reactions are very complimentary of the action set pieces in the film.
But, there are some that found the actual plot a little lacking. Generally, if you love a Star Wars movie or show that keeps the adventurous tone we got in The Mandalorian, you’re going to enjoy this film. Check out some of the best reactions that are sparking conversations with us at THS.
Grogu remains the cutest
Our little friend is up there in the billing for a reason. Grogu became a legitimate phenomenon. This movie is leaning into having our guy step into a heroic role. Tessa Smith over at Mama’s Geeky gaver her take on the new movie:
“If you think Grogu is the cutest thing ever then you will like The Mandalorian and Grogu. It relies heavily on adorable, comedic moments and big action sequences, but not so much on dialogue and story. It’s ok overall but far too long. Love seeing Zeb in live action.”
Return to Form
For That Hollywood Show’s Hunter Bolding, The Mandalorian and Grogu is a return to what worked for the series. Star Wars hasn’t had a movie for a while. So, this entry is a welcome addition to a storied tradition.
“The Mandalorian and Grogu is a major return to form for Star Wars. All the things that make Star Wars special are here: whimsy, adventure, weird monsters, action, heart, and rolling Hutts. The score is a beating heart. Star Wars fans should be thrilled by this.”
Best outing yet for Baby Yoda
We mentioned it before but there’s a reason the Internet jokes about The Mandalorian as “the Baby Yoda show.” That’s because we all love the little orphan. The Mary Sue’s Rachel Leishman is just happy to have Star Wars back in theaters.
“THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU is a perfect expansion of what the show set up. Truly the best outing yet for Baby Yoda and his dad. And also the best 20 minutes of a side quest to ever exist. God I love Star Wars on the big screen!!!!!”
Perfect Summer Movie
The summer season is packed with blockbusters. Everyone just wants to go have a nice time at the theater on an afternoon trip with their family and friends. For Courtney Howard, The Mandalorian is going to win a lot of the casual moviegoers over.

A thrilling adventure
A question that has circled this franchise a lot in recent years is just: “What is Star Wars now?” For Fandango’s Erik Davis, the series is about that sweeping feeling of adventure.
“STAR WARS is back on the big screen and #TheMandalorianAndGrogu is a thrilling adventure full of big fights, gnarly creatures and plenty of adorable Grogu moments. It’s less about the lore and more a fun, freaky romp across the galaxy. I really dug that about it.”
“Also really dug Ludwig Göransson’s score, especially the parts that felt like an homage to ‘80s synth-driven horror and action thrillers. Martin Scorsese’s brief role is a big scene stealer, as are the Anzellans.”
