Helena Zengel & Finn Wolfhard On The Joys of Practical Effects In ‘Legend of Ochi’ [Interview]

Helena Zengel and Finn Wolfhard interview for The Legend of Ochi

In the new family fantasy adventure feature The Legend of Ochi, A24 transports audiences to a world just a little more magical than our own. The story takes place in a lush remote area populated by unique creatures: the Ochi. A bit like a lemur meets an orangutan, the Ochi have a striking look, with large ears, expressive faces, and orange fur.

And unlike a lot of fantasy features today, these creatures came to life with practical effects.

We sat down with Helena Zengel and Finn Wolfhard to talk about their work on The Legend of Ochi. In particular, the two delved into their experience working with the practical puppets on set. During our interview, Wolfhard revealed that the practical effects made him want to work on the film, while Zengel told us about the first time she saw (a still hairless and incomplete) Ochi.
