Sports and entertainment go hand in hand. Look no further than the popular HBO docuseries Hard Knocks for evidence of the notion. Athletes, and their fans, provide a great deal of theater, that’s for sure. But what’s it like to take a deeper dive into sports fandom? If you’re a fan of professional football, you’ve surely heard of Bills Mafia. They are one of the most fervent, raucous, and dedicated fan bases out there. Tubi’s new, original docuseries Just One Before I Die gives us an insider’s look into what it’s like to be a die-hard fan of the Buffalo Bills.
Tubi describes Just One Before I Die thusly: “Full of heart and humor, the five-part docuseries chronicles “Bills Mafia,” the most passionate and wild fanbase in sports in their quest for an elusive championship. From legendary tailgates and table-smashing traditions to lifelong rituals, heartbreak, hope, and unwavering loyalty, the series captures the culture that has transformed the “Bills Mafia” from a fanbase into a phenomenon.”

“Bills Mafia has built a culture defined by unwavering loyalty, community, and generations of traditions. At Tubi, we believe the best sports stories aren’t just about what happens on the field but about the fans whose passion gives the game its meaning,” said Samuel Harowitz, SVP of Content Acquisitions and Partnerships at Tubi. “Just One Before I Die is a celebration of one of the most iconic fandoms in sports, and as Tubi continues investing in Sports & Culture programming, we’re excited to tell stories that honor them and deepen the connection between our audiences and the sports they love.”

The series will feature interviews with celebrity Buffalo Bills fans (actor Chad Michael Murray), former players (Jim Kelly, Andre Reed), commentators (Adam Schefter, Nick Wright), and more. They, like this author, will tell you that Bills Mafia truly is one of the best fan bases in all of sports. How do I know? I was Bills Mafia before it even existed. I witnessed “Wide Right,” four Super Bowl loses, the “Music City Miracle,” “13 Seconds,” all of it. Yet here I am, still a Bills fan, still hoping for that Super Bowl victory, wishing for just one before I die.
The series premiers on Tubi Wednesday, October 21.
And, as always: Be good, do good, God bless, and go Bills!
