A New Chapter For A Fan Favorite

Prime Video is opening the doors for Barbershop again! A 2000s cornerstone comes for the current generation. Jermaine Fowler plays Travis ‘Trav’ Walker in the new version of Barbershop. And, he’s brought along a host of other delightful comedic talent for the new series. Prime Video’s new images showcase the cast and there’s just something nice about being back inside a set that feels like that old shop from the movie series. Barbershop Returns As A Series On Prime Video

In the midst of a full on 2000s revival, Prime Video is bringing back Barbershop. Jermaine Fowler is here as a protaganist. He’s coming back to Chicago to honor his grandfather’s legacy. However, the shop has changed a bit in his absence, and frankly so has the city! Forced to confront the passage of time, and his duty to the community, how can he get the shop back on the right track?

Executive producer Marshall Todd co-wrote the original Barbershop film. Max Searle co-showruns with Todd on Barbershop. Your featured cast includes Brett Gray, Punkie Johnson, Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye, and Langston Kerman. So, there’s a lot of good young talent in the mix with some established names!

Bringing It All Back

Clearly, Prime Video is excited to be in the Barbershop business. The creative team they’ve got in the fold has a lot of experience with the franchise. And, the name recognition of these movies should only help when considering other recent TV hits. Here’s what Prime Video had to say when the show got announced.

What’s the new show about?

Travis “Trav” Walker (Jermaine Fowler) returns to Chicago hoping to honor his grandfather’s legacy at the iconic Calvin’s barbershop, but the shop has changed, and so has the city. As Trav struggles to find his place among a new crew of barbers and loyal customers, Calvin’s remains what it’s always been, a place for sharp fades, sharp opinions, and a community that always has something to say.

In a world where Netflix just scored a massive goal with a popular reimagining of a fan favorite with A Different Aorld, going back to the Barbershop well makes a ton of sense. Also, don’t sleep on the guest stars for this series. Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker, and Belmont Cameli are all going to appear. Kevin Hart’s production comapny might have another hit on its hands.
