‘Abbott Elementary’ Adds Bill Hader

Bill Hader is one of the funniest actors working today. He became a household name after his long standing run on Saturday Night Live, playing characters like Stefan and Lindsey Buckingham before going on to win awards for his portrayal of Barry Berkman in the hit HBO series Barry. Now the actor is taking on a new task: Elementary school. Hader revealed that he will be guest starring in season 6 of the hit series Abbott Elementary.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hader spoke about starring in The Cat in the Hat and talked about his co-star, Quinta Brunson. Brunson created and stars in the hit ABC series Abbott Elementary and he revealed to host Jimmy Kimmel that he’s excited to share that he’s guest starring in the show this upcoming season. Kimmel pointed out that it is rare that someone not from Philadelphia is asked to guest on the show and Hader made a joke about how he had to act like he was from there. Other than that, Hader did not go into detail about his role or how big it is otherwise.

It is a big deal to get a cameo on Abbott Elementary. The mockumentary series is beloved for a reason and getting to add Hader to that line-up? Kind of iconic.

A history of iconic guest stars

Abbott Elementary is now in its sixth season and that has come with a lot of fun guest stars. Philadelphia legends like Gritty, Eagles players Jason Kelce, Jalen Hurts, and Brandon Graham, actor Bradley Cooper, Questlove, and more have all graced the halls of Abbott Elementary. Their ties to Philly made the cameo hilarious, poignant, and sweet. But there have been plenty of guest stars not from the City of Brotherly Love.

Quick cameos like Kevin Hart’s, who is from Philadelphia, are fun and then we have others like Lana Candor’s cameo in season 3. Candor, Tatyana Ali, and more are not native to Philly but their inclusion in the show is a fun exploration of the reach a show like Abbott Elementary can have. Now, Hader is joining the exclusive club of “Not Philly natives but allows to play on Abbott Elementary” club.

Whether Hader’s joke about Philly Cheesesteaks makes the final cut of his cameo is yet to be determined. You can see Hader talking to Kimmel about his role here:
