If you were a child of the ’90s, you were cautioned with the tale of Lorena Bobbitt cutting her husband’s penis off as a horror story. Well, now you get to see the story, as told by Hulu.
Two Rising Stars Take on a Wild Story
The second season of Hulu’s anthology series, “Good American Family,” has its story set and its leads cast. Isabela Merced (“Superman”) and Patrick Schwarzenegger (“The White Lotus”) will be taking on the roles of Lorena and John Bobbitt, an infamous couple from Virginia whose tragic story was completely sensationalized by the media and pretty much anyone in entertainment.
Merced will be playing Lorena, an immigrant woman from Ecuador, who accused her then-husband of rape and abuse and cut off his penis with a kitchen while he was sleeping. Afterwards, she took off with it and then threw it outside of the car and called 911. Schwarzenegger will take on the role of the mutilated John, who abused his wife to the point of brutal retaliation. Both actors have excellent track records when taking on morally complex characters and nothing gets trickier than when a domestic abuse case where the victim fights back makes national headlines.
Continuing the ‘Good American’ Tradition
“Good American Family” is an anthology series that takes bizarre, real-life headlines and brings them to life with some stacked casts. The second season comes from the same creative team and studio (20th Television) as the first, which focused on the deeply weird adoption story of Ukrainian orphan Natalia Grace Barnett. Katie Robbins remains the creator, writer and executive produces alongside Ellen Pompeo, who was the lead in the first season.

Since “Good American Family” dropped in March 2025, it has been a pretty polarizing show with mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. The main criticism seems to take issue with how the retelling has been dramatized and repackaged for streaming, which is unlikely to change considering the team hasn’t changed. Despite the critiques, the show has amassed 140 million-plus hours on Disney+ and Hulu and its finale was the most watched of either platform in 2025.
Audiences will likely turn up for this second season as well, especially with a news story that sparked a thousand jokes, gender equality essays, and put an uncomfortable spotlight on domestic violence.
