The ‘Dig’ Trailer Brings Amy Poehler Back in a Brand New Comedy!

Amy Poehler is known for her wit, comedic timing, and work on shows like Saturday Night Live and Parks and Recreation. Now, the comedy legend is back with a new series for Peacock! Created by Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur, the series is set to premiere on Peacock in November and stars Poehler, Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas and Fina Strazza.

What if Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) had a more contentious relationship? That’s kind of what the new trailer for Dig is bringing to fans. Elise (Poehler) is the “beating heart” of an archeological dig but what happens when her boss, who constantly teases retiring, is still in charge when she finds a life-changing discovery? Neville (Laurie) cannot know and the rest is the mystery of Dig for fans to discover.

Dig is described as follows: “Dig follows a team of dedicated archaeologists (and less-dedicated college students) who spend their summer working on a dig site in Greece. Their discovery of a rare artifact sends them on the adventure of a lifetime.”

Amy Poehler back on NBC

Part of the joy of having Poehler in a show like Dig is that it is, in many ways, a return to form. Poehler famously starred in seven seasons of the hit NBC series Parks and Recreation as Leslie Knope, the very overzealous Deputy Director of the Pawnee Parks Department. Through all seven seasons, she showed us how a woman who was often mocked for her determination could be the best choice for Pawnee. It allowed Poehler to, many times, be the straight man to the chaos of Pawnee citizens and the show itself was a beautiful exploration of a woman just trying to do the best she can for a town she loves.

With Dig, it seems very different from Leslie’s love for Pawnee. Elise clearly loves her job and her boss is constantly trying to undermine her but it isn’t the same kind of show that Parks and Recreation was. Elise and Neville don’t exactly seem like the best of friends that Ron and Leslie were. But more than that, the show is giving Poehler the chance to work with Schur again and play a completely different kind of character.

Dig is set to release on Peacock on November 23 and for fans who have missed Schur and Poehler together, the wait is almost over!
