‘Pride & Prejudice’ Brings Jane Austen’s Beloved Work to Life in New Trailer

Jane Austen’s novel Pride & Prejudice is beloved for a reason. The cherished work tells the love story of Lizzie Bennet and her gruff Mr. Darcy and now fans are getting a brand new mini series adaptation of Austen’s story. Starring Emma Corrin as Lizzie and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, the new series dropped its trailer and it does look like a pretty perfect adaptation. The cast includes Corrin, Lowden, Olivia Colman, Rufus Sewell, Freya Mavor, Jamie Demetriou, Daryl McCormack, Rhea Norwood, Hopey Parish, Hollie Avery, Siena Kelly, and Fiona Shaw.

“One day, Jane, I shall be either a governess and a spinster, or a wife and a mother,” Lizzie says in the trailer. “And then finally, we may talk about something else.” And it is the perfect kind of energy for a character like Lizzie Bennet. Many of Austen’s protagonists push back at the idea of love, maybe because of Austen’s own “spinster” life, but it is why Lizzie is relatable to so many. She doesn’t want to search for love but Mr. Darcy comes when she least expects it.

Pride & Prejudice is described as follows: “Pride and Prejudice, one of the most iconic novels of all time, is coming to Netflix as an all-new 6-part limited series. The series will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel, written by Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper).”

Jane Austen’s Everlasting Legacy

"Man in historical clothing and top hat riding a dark horse in a forest, surrounded by tall trees and green foliage, with soft natural daylight illuminating the outdoor scene."

This is a big year for fans of Jane Austen’s work. We kicked things off with The Other Bennet Sister, a series all about Mary Bennet (Ella Bruccoleri) finding her place in the world. Then, the Georgia Oakley adaptation of Sense and Sensibility hit theaters. All ahead of a new adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Pride & Prejudice is, arguably, Austen’s most famous work and the one many romance fans point to as the best within the genre.

The last big adaptation fans got of it was the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley as Lizzie Bennet. The new adaptation returns the adaptations to its roots by turning the story into a mini-series, much like the BBC version from the 90s. We don’t know yet what will change about the story if anything but one thing is true about the legacy of Austen’s most famous work: We all long to find our Mr. Darcy and it doesn’t seem like this adaptation is going to change that.

You can see Pride & Prejudice on Netflix on December 3.
