Get ready folks, because the hunt for the next James Bond has begun.
Amazon MGM Studios has announced that they’re auditioning actors to play the next iteration of James Bond in their upcoming film from Denis Villeneuve. They’ve tapped veteran casting director Nina Gold to help find the next Bond.
“The search for the next James Bond is underway,” Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement. “While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Gold is known for working on franchises like Game of Thrones, The Crown, Star Wars, and other films like The Martian and Les MIserables. She was nominated for an Oscar for her work on Hamnet in 2025.
The next actor joins the long legacy of Bond actors that includes Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. The character was invented by Ian Fleming and Amazon MGM Studios recently acquired the exclusive rights to the series from the Broccoli family.
Denis Villeneuve is the director for the next film, who is known for movies like Dune: Part 1 and 2, Sicario, and Arrival. Amy Pascal is producing the film which features a script from Steven Knight.
This should quickly put to bed any speculation that has run rampant about who the next Bond would be. Fan-castings include Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Callum Turner. There’s no word on if they want a more experienced Bond or a relative newcomer that they can shape into the character. Here’s what Amazon MGM had to say during their panel at CinemaCon 2026 from Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film.
“We’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect,” she said. “It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. What I can tell you is this: When you pair one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class film-making team, including the brilliant director Denis Villeneuve, extraordinary producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe and screenwriter Steven Knight, you’re setting the stage for something that’s truly worthy of the Bond legacy. That film is coming, and when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”
I for one, hope that we get a more grizzled Bond in the style of Daniel Craig. A young Bond doesn’t feel like it fits the moment or the time that we’re in, in the world right now.
