Any fan of Witch Hat Atelier will know after watching the first season’s finale that it’s one of the worst cliffhangers in anime history. Apparently, director Ayumu Watanabe (Summer Time Rendering; Komi Can’t Communicate), assistant director Jun Shinohara (Heavenly Delusion; Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead), producer Hiroaki Kojima, and writer Hiroshi Seko (DAN DA DAN; JUJUTSU KAISEN) along with animation studio Bug Films (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) decided that it would be a great idea to finish the first season right on the cusp of a bloody action sequence in a very tense and dramatic moment. Not surprisingly, it has created a very frustrating moment for fans of the anime. Fortunately, Crunchyroll has recognized this, and are eager to do something about it.
Crunchyroll is proud to announce they have acquired the upcoming second season of Witch Hat Atelier for eventual streaming. Alas, I say “eventual streaming” because there’s no other details in this announcement. No release window or any concrete release details. All this announcement states is that Witch Hat Atelier Season 2 will stream exclusively on Crunchyroll save for in Asia, just like the first season. That’s it.
Well, that, and a new illustration directly from creator Kamome Shirahama celebrating the confirmation of Witch Hat Atelier Season 2. You can check that out below for that, and for the official synopsis for the anime from Crunchyroll below:
Witch Hat Atelier Season 2 Commemorative Illustration and Synopsis

In a world where only witches can cast magic, they must avoid being seen by ordinary people while casting. While Coco does her chores, she daydreams of becoming a witch. When a young witch named Qifrey visits her village, Coco uncovers the “absolute secret,” becomes Qifrey’s apprentice, and begins her studies. This is the story of children who encounter despair, yet reach out toward hope.
Crunchyroll Confirms Acquisition of Witch Hat Atelier Season 2…and That’s It
Honestly, I’m of two minds on this announcement. Yes, it’s very nice to know that Crunchyroll will be streaming Witch Hat Atelier Season 2. You know, just like they are currently streaming the first season on their streaming platform here. So at the very least, we don’t have to worry about having to subscribe to a different streaming service just to find out what happens next after seeing Qifrey about to engage in a last stand.
On the other hand, there really isn’t anything much of substance in this announcement. Crunchyroll announces nothing else about Witch Hat Atelier Season 2. No release window or anything, so we have no idea when we’ll even get to see this upcoming second season. This likely mean that it will take quite a while before we see it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it will take until 2027 or so before we see it.
To be fair though, there’s probably quite a few reasons for this lack of release details. Not least of which because Bug Films has probably only just started working on Witch Hat Atelier Season 2. Alas though, it’s further proof that it will take a while before we can see that second season. Oh well, there’s plenty to do while waiting for it. Including reading the original manga from Kamome Shirahama, which is currently at 16 volumes and counting ever since it began on July 22, 2016. You can also re-watch the first season, either to watch it in the original Japanese audio or in the English dub. Depending on which you watched first, of course.
