The Varnell Hill Show Gets Hysterical First Look From Paramount+

The Return Of A Classic Character

Paramount Plus unveiled the first look at The Varnell Hill Show. It’s 1/2 hour workplace comedy playing on the iconic character from Martin. Tommy Davidson stars in this new show produced by Martin Lawrence and Bentley Kyle Evans.

The first season makes its way to Paramount plus on September 1st. And there’s a new episode every Tuesday through October 13th. Check out what the new show is about down below along with more looks at the series.

The Varnell Hill Show Arrives

Tommy Davidson is playing Varnell Hill again after a long layover. Martin Lawrence and Billy Kyle Evans serve as executive producers on the new half hour Workplace comedy. Paramount plus trotted out some first look images for The Varnell Hill Show and you can take a look at them down below.

Martin will be delighted to see and Davidson playing this character again. But, a lot has changed since the days of those radio shows and then eventually a TV show on the previous series period now Varnell will have to navigate all kinds of modern shenanigans in this workplace comedy. 8 episodes with weekly releases shows more of the throwback spirit we’re operating in here.

Everyone Is Excited To Be Back

Talking to Official Rap Attack, the lead actor expressed real excitement about being back in the saddle. It’s been a long time coming.

“It’s real, we shot it,” Davidson explained. “We shot eight of them… We’ve seen the editing and it’s beautiful… Me and Martin got together probably after 14 years. We hadn’t seen each other. We hadn’t been on camera together since the show was out,”

What Is The Host Up Against?

Nearly three decades after audiences first met him, Varnell Hill is stepping back into the spotlight — and he’s determined to prove he’s still the star of the show. Set behind the scenes of a long-running late-night talk show, The Varnell Hill Show follows Varnell (Davidson) as he fights to stay relevant in a rapidly changing entertainment landscape.

Between network executives eager to modernize the show, a chaotic writers’ room, celebrity guests, family drama, and his own outsized ego, Varnell quickly discovers that keeping a television empire together may be harder than building one in the first place.

Davidson leads an ensemble cast that includes Kym Whitley, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Nick Cafero, Emmanuel Hudson and Chris Williams, alongside a lineup of guest stars including Ms. Pat, Deon Cole, Damon Wayans, Mike Epps, Omarion and many more, with special appearances by Lawrence.

The Varnell Hill show streams on Paramount+ September 1.
