Emily Blunt and more are coming to Sicario 3
2015 feels like an eternity ago and Taylor Sheridan’s franchise is getting an entirely new chapter. Denis Villeneuve’s directorial chops lands the original feature in a list of fan-favorite military fare. Sicario: Day of the Soldado also released in 2018 after the success of the first film. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin returned for that entry.
In the streaming era, more viewers have stumbled upon Sicario and liked what they have seen. Apparently, the pitch was strong enough for Emily Blunt to be intrigued too! While Lionsgate released the first two Sicario movies, don’t expect that they will have the inside track to distribution. The production companies are taking this one to market. We’ll know more as the bidding begins!

The long road here
In the march towards the present, its important to remember that Sheridan actually is over at NBC Universal for his TV production now. Yes, Lioness is still doing its thing over at Paramount. But, that business relationship would be something to keep an eye on.
Variety actually confirmed that Sheridan had completed the script for Sicario 3 in a piece from earlier this year. During that report, they also mentioned the Skydance merger of Warner Bros. and Paramount larger-writ. So, expect the previous performance of the first film, and the Yellowstone universe to factor into how studios view this creative team.
Getting Steven Knight in there to work on the script deserves some commotion as well. There are tons of TV fans that have shown up for anything he put pen to paper on. So, another feather in Sicario 3’s cap before a moment of footage has been filmed. The entire entertainment landscape is constantly shifting, so be on your toes when it comes to development cycles in 2026.
Sheridan’s Cultural Impact
If you don’t believe us when talking abour Sheridan as a power player, there’s other people who support that read of his status. NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley runs the entertainment division and gave her reasoning from luring the Yellowstone creator away from Paramount in that same Variety piece.
During Bloomberg’s Screentime event, she said, “There’s just a moment to kind of look around the marketplace and see if there’s a competitive advantage. But really, where I started talking to Taylor was about film, because I knew that he had a film deal at Paramount, but it was a first-look deal. Didn’t have as many teeth to it as his television deal. That’s how it started, and then we just got to talking and one thing led to another.”
