Daemons of the Shadow Realm has Yuru and his Daemons turn the table on his pursuers in Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru”. It’s pretty clearly a case of the hunters becoming the hunted here, and in a very action-packed way to boot. Now we wait and see if this is a good thing for Yuru, or if he has bitten off more than he can chew.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru”: Details in Brief

Daemons of the Shadow Realm Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru” is the fourth episode (you can read my reviews for Ep. 1, Ep. 2, and Ep. 3 here) of this dark fantasy action adventure anime series. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist, Silver Spoon, The Heroic Legend of Arslan).
Bones Film (Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Ouran High School Host Club, My Hero Academia) is the animation studio behind this anime. Masahiro Andō is the director behind this anime, with Noboru Takagi as the writer, and Kenichiro Suehiro as the composer for the music.
Speaking of that music, the opening theme song for Daemons of the Shadow Realm is “Time to Fly” by Vaundy. Meanwhile, “Let’s Fly” by yama is the ending theme song.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru”: The Good
You can really divide what’s good about Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru” into two parts. The first part is the slice of life parts of the episode, which makes up roughly the first half of it. In those parts, Yuru (voiced by Kensho Ono (JP) and Ben Stegmair (EN)) and his Daemons Right (voiced by Rikiya Koyama (JP) and Bill Butts (EN)) and Left (voiced by Takako Honda (JP) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (EN)) basically continue their introduction to modern Japan. Specifically in this case: a modern Japanese apartment complex. It further builds on the reverse isekai aspects of this anime, giving us an even better idea of just how medieval Yuru’s life was in his hidden village.
Furthermore, it also introduces us to more of the supernatural aspects of the anime when said anime introduces the Daemons of one Hana (voiced by Miyuri Shimabukuro (JP) and Meggie-Elise (EN)). Although frankly speaking, the utter cuteness of those Daemons makes it look more like Hiromu Arakawa wanted to have an excuse to include an adorable cat and dog into the story. This is not a bad thing, by the way. Having animals in a story is always a plus, and Arakawa has always had a penchant for including animals of all shapes and sizes into her works.
The Second Half Of The Episode…
Then we get to the second half of the episode, where the action finally begins. The action sequences are very well done, being a mixture of medieval fighting with melee weapons, and modern warfare with just-as-modern guns, which in this case includes pistols, shotguns, and even a grenade launcher. Honestly, I do love the contrast here of guns facing off against supernatural threats, with varying levels of effectiveness…or rather, ineffectiveness due to how little damage those guns seem to inflict on Right and Left. Still, the fact that the guns were tested out on them suggests that at least against some supernatural threats, guns do work. Now we just have to wait and see if we get more opportunities for guns to make an appearance in future episodes of Daemons of the Shadow Realm.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru”: The Bad

Honestly, the only real bad part about Ep. 4 “Jin and Yuru” is the fact that it leaves off on a cliffhanger, with Yuru having taken one of his enemies hostage in order to force a meeting with his sister. But to be fair here, the action has essentially ended at that point, with everyone being in a stalemate due to the hostage situation. There’s just no more room in the story for any more action at that point, and all that’s left to do is to wait for more story to happen in the next episode.
