Witch on the Holy Night will be very familiar to fans of Fate/stay night. That’s because both stories take place in the extensive modern urban fantasy franchise known as the Nasuverse for its creator Kinoko Nasu. It’s a franchise best known for its extensive series of visual novels. In fact, Witch on the Holy Night is itself one of those visual novels that originally released in its home nation of Japan all the way back in 2012. Alas, it was only until 2023 that it finally got a global release, including on Steam. Despite that late global debut though, it still exploded in popularity. In fact, it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam in the high 90s. It would certainly explain why it’s getting an anime film adaptation, and why we’re getting this story for today.
Crunchyroll is proud to present a brand new trailer for the anime film adaptation of Witch on the Holy Night. Along with that trailer, they are also announcing exactly when we’ll get to see it. For us here in the U.S. and Canada, that anime film will make its theatrical debut on January 29, 2027. It will be available to watch both in its original Japanese audio with English subtitles, as well as in English dub. Alas, tickets for it are not yet on sale. But, you can check when they’ll be available on Fandango.

Witch on the Holy Night All Set to Deliver Fantastic Action on January 29, 2026
Honestly though, that trailer for Witch on the Holy Night didn’t really reveal anything substantial about the anime film. All it really did was set up the mood and tone of the movie as a whole, giving us a dark environment both in terms of lighting and in its story beats. Oh, and fantasy action. Aoko’s flashy magic should be a big sign that she’s about to do something spectacularly violent with said magic. It’s quite typical of the bigger spells in the Nasuverse. The ones meant to basically work like magical WMDs.
It certainly sets the expectation that we will see things blow up quite spectacularly in this movie. Let’s just hope that when we get to actually see this movie on January 29, it will deliver on its promised explosions. And very flashy action. Fortunately, Ufotable is making this anime film, and given how well they did with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, I have hope that they will succeed in meeting those expectation.
