Crunchyroll is proud to announce a pair of anime series that will be coming to home video, all next year in January 2027. As you can tell by the title, one of those anime series will actually be the anime film Attack on Titan: The Last Attack. This anime film is effectively an anime film compilation of the final season of Attack on Titan compressed into a single anime film. It creates a more cohesive experience for audiences and increases the overall animation quality to feature-length anime film standards, as well as adding an additional scene to the story that wasn’t present in the original anime series. It’s certainly a great way for Attack on Titan to enjoy an upgraded version of the final season from the comforts of your own home. All in a shiny SteelBook version complete with Blu-ray and 4K UHD packed into a single release.
Attack on Titan: The Last Attack isn’t the only anime getting a home video release though. The first season of Let This Grieving Soul Retire will also see a release in Blu-ray in January 2027. Specifically: both home video releases will be on January 26, 2027. It’s just the bare Blu-ray release though, with only a few bonus features to incentivize you to purchase it. If you like Let This Grieving Soul Retire though, then this is your time to get it for your home video library.
Ah, but that’s enough out of me for now. Here’s the nitty-gritty details about both home video releases Crunchyroll has planned for January 2027 below:

Crunchyroll Releasing Only Two Anime Series / Films in January 2027
Honestly, and this is just my personal opinion, but doesn’t it seem a bit…bare bones for Crunchyroll to only have two home video releases planned for January 2027? Just two? Really? And one of them is an anime film to boot. All exclusive to the Crunchyroll Store on top of that, and with massively high price tags as the cherry on top. Attack on Titan: The Last Attack will cost $55.98 to preorder from that Crunchyroll Store, and Let This Grieving Soul Retire Season 1has an even higher price tag at $63.98. Now granted, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is being sold as a SteelBook, sure, but there’s barely any physical stuff in it to justify that high price. Let This Grieving Soul Retire Season 1 at least has the excuse that you’re getting 24 episodes, but still.
Are the lack of home video releases next year plus the insanely high price tags side effects of Sony shutting down their Blu-ray production? After all, when you’re not going to be making Blu-ray discs period, it’s not just games that are going to be affected. Home video releases also need Blu-ray production to keep going. Yes, Sony claims that they are going to keep making Blu-ray discs for movies and TV series, but who knows how long that’s going to last if Sony is willing to end physical game releases? Here’s hoping that this lack of anime releases in January 2027 is just a coincidence and not reflective of a new trend.
