‘Whalefall’ Dives Deep With New Official Trailer And Release Date

To understand why Whalefall even exists as a concept, you must have the context. Throughout the years, and as recently as 2025, there have been rare but documented instances of whales swallowing humans whole. It’s almost always a humpback whale that’s doing the swallowing, and said swallowing is typically very brief. The whale quickly realizes that it accidentally swallowed something it didn’t want to swallow, and they will just surface to spit the human back out. There’s also the fact that humans can’t physically fit down the throat of a humpback whale because said humpback whales evolved to feed on plankton and small fish, not creatures the size of an adult human.

However, what it was a sperm whale that swallowed a human? With special note to the fact that sperm whales hunt very large creatures like giant squid. This is the situation that Whalefall posits to turn those harmless incidents into a horror thriller story. First as a thriller novel by Daniel Kraus, and now by the movie that was adapted from it, and that’s the story for today.

20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment are proud to present a new official trailer for their upcoming film Whalefall. This trailer not only gives us a rather in-depth look at the unusual situation main character Jay Gardner (played by Austin Abrams) has found himself in, but it also reveals that we’ll get to see this movie exclusively in theaters on October 16, 2026. Now as for that trailer, you can see it for yourself on YouTube, or just look below for that and the full details:

Whalefall Dives into U.S. Theaters on October 16, 2026

Honestly, I’m probably not the only one who thinks that Whalefall is one of the oddest premises for a movie in a while. However odd that premise is though, the trailer shows off how it could make a pretty good thriller story. A single guy who is trapped in the stomach of a sperm whale along with a very desperate giant squid? It’s a pretty horrific situation for that guy to be in. It’s also why it makes such an entertaining thriller story. I can already easily imagine that guy using that squid beak he found in order to give the sperm whale’s stomach a few jabs. You know, in order to irritate the whale’s stomach enough to make it vomit him out along with whatever else is in that whale’s stomach. It may be a long shot, but well, what choice does he have left?

In any case, I’m definitely waiting for October 16 to find out how this guy gets out of a whale’s stomach. Assuming that he does, of course.

What do you all think? Are you too eager to see how this random diver gets out of a whale’s stomach when you finally get to see Whalefall on October 16? Tell us your whaling thoughts in the comments section below.
