Our older viewers as well as fans of classic 1980s’ shows will readily recall the title The Real Ghostbusters. It was basically an animated spinoff of the 1984 Ghostbusters movie, but not by the original director Ivan Reitman or even writers (as well as lead actors) Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. Instead, showrunners Joe Medjuck and Michael C. Gross were the ones responsible for this animated show, and their work resulted in the show becoming a cult classic in the modern day. So much so that it formed the basis for two ongoing comic book spinoffs, as well as the events of the show more or less becoming canon for the video game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. All in all, it was a major success story despite the show being aimed primarily at children, and is remembered quite fondly by a large fandom. Which probably explains why we’re getting this story.
Mondo is proud to announce a new set of 1/12 scale figures based off of The Real Ghostbusters incarnation of the Ghostbusters team. This set, titled the Mondo x The Real Ghostbusters – Citizen Ghost 1/12 Scale Figure Set – Timed Edition, features ghost versions of Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore “decked out in supernatural covered jumpsuits and wielding corrupted proton packs”, with them also being covered in glow in the dark detachable marshmallow goo for nighttime spookiness value. However, you also have the option and parts to swap them out for their human selves if the ghost versions are not to your liking.

The Real Ghostbusters Getting Some Long Overdue Recognition with New Figures
Honestly, this has been a long time coming. Yes, Ghostbusters is a pretty popular cult classic movie with a huge fanbase that has outlived even some of the main cast of the 1984 movie itself (rest in peace, Harold Ramis). However, fewer people are familiar with The Real Ghostbusters since not as many people might’ve gotten into that animated show back when they were kids. This somehow makes that animated show even more of a cult classic than the original movie it was based off of due to how much more narrow its fanbase is. All of which makes Mondo making figures based off of it quite special.
And yet, you can already see the big downside to these The Real Ghostbusters figures the moment you go to the store page: its absurdly high price. At $365 USD, this is one of the most expensive figure sets I’ve ever seen. Sure, you’re getting a set of four figures plus bonus attachments, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s still incredibly expensive. I suspect that high price is a bit too absurd for most normal people to drop on a whim. If you want these figures, then you will need to save up quite a bit of cash before you can own a piece of animated history.
