Over the course of its decades-long career at Toho, Godzilla has gone up against numerous foes. Whether it’s humans firing weapons of war at him or another monster (or monsters) coming to claim its turf, Godzilla has faced a horde of foes for 72 years and counting now in a seemingly neverending war for audiences’ favor.
And yet, there is one foe Godzilla has not faced yet: everything. Whether one at a time or all at once, the king of monsters hasn’t yet fought every foe it has ever faced. And across all the various universe this kaiju king has ever appeared in to boot. Well, as you can tell by the title of this story, that’s all about to change.
IDW Publishing is proud to announce their upcoming mega-crossover comic book series: GODZILLA VS EVERYTHING. As the title implies, this upcoming 4-issue comic book will feature Godzilla facing every one of its foes from the connected universe of comics from the Kai-Sei era, including but not limited to GODZILLA, STARSHIP GODZILLA, DEADZONE, and THE HORROR OF GODZILLA. And the thing is? Godzilla will be the villain of the story, with it having “achieved its most powerful form yet and has its sights set on destroying the world”, and so the “combined forces of Earth – and beyond” will be needed to stop the King of the Monsters. All by New York Times bestselling writer Tim Seeley and acclaimed artist Fero Pe.
GODZILLA VS EVERYTHING #1 (of 4) will go on sale in March 2027. You can preorder it right now directly from your local comic book shop. GODZILLA VS EVERYTHING Facing King of Monsters Off Against Everything in March 2027
Honestly, GODZILLA VS EVERYTHING could be either really good, or really bad. Much of it simply because it’s a mega-crossover between so many different Godzilla comics. Complete with all the main characters from those comic books needing to interact and cooperate with each other in order to take down a superpowered Godzilla…as if the King of the Monsters needed an upgrade to begin with, but that’s another thing entirely.
The point here is that not only are there the character and personality problems to deal with, but they have wildly different tech to work with to boot. If this crossover isn’t handled well, then it could come off as being a bit of a hack job in terms of story, simply due to all of the elements Seeley needs to think about for this crossover. Alas, we will have to wait for March of next year to see if Seeley can pull off this crossover well.
