Star Wars is a massive science fantasy franchise that George Lucas created in 1977 with the first Star Wars movie, and has since then birthed an enormously huge expanded universe. Meanwhile, Marvel is a just-as-massive franchise of superhero stories set in a mindbogglingly huge shared universe that began in 1939 when Martin Goodman began the franchise as Timely Comics. So what do these mega-franchises have in common with each other? Well, for one thing, Disney owns both of them now. Disney bought up Marvel Entertainment in 2009, and then 3 years later bought Star Wars from George Lucas in 2012. While Disney’s ownership of the franchises has been a bit…mixed, that ownership allows Disney to make crossover between them without any legal issues. Crossovers like this one.
Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm Publishing are proud to announce STAR WARS | MARVEL: HOPE ASSEMBLES at New York Comic-Con 2026 (NYCC 2026). Specifically: this unveiling took place at the Marvel Comics: House of Ideas Panel, with writer Kevin Smith himself making a surprise appearance for the panel to explain his new upcoming comic book series. This upcoming comic book series will bring together the two famous franchises in print form, with Smith as the writer and David Marquez as the artist to unite “the heroes and villains of the Marvel’s Universe with the galaxy far, far away in an unprecedented pop culture collision”. All in a five-issue comic book series that will launch in January 13, 2027.
Not only that, but Alex Ross will draw the cover for the first issue of STAR WARS | MARVEL: HOPE ASSEMBLES. With numerous other artists responsible for variant covers, and with the comic having an ongoing variant cover program for the comic book. In fact, you can check out a gallery of the cover art below:

STAR WARS | MARVEL: HOPE ASSEMBLES Bringing Star Wars and Marvel Together for New Comic

Honestly, this looks like the ultimate crossover story in the works here. It’s also exactly what Disney is likely going for: a major crossover between their two biggest media franchises of Star Wars and Marvel. As you can see from the cover art and even that sample page above, they’re going all out on that crossover right from the get-go. Complete with an Imperial-class star destroyer chasing what looks like the Tantive IV through the skies of New York City, firing turbolaser bolts as the Marvel characters either try to save as many civilians as they can or just get to cover to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
It’s an incredibly iconic scene that raises the hype up to new levels, and raises up the hopes that this upcoming STAR WARS | MARVEL: HOPE ASSEMBLES comic will be as good as it looks. Alas, we will have to wait for January of next year to find that out for certain. Cross your fingers and prepare to jump to light-speed, folks.
